ABSTRACT
Las páginas web constituyen un medio facilitador del conocimiento. El trabajo se realizó con el objetivo de diseñar e implementar una biblioteca virtual para favorecer el proceso de gestión de la información del Departamento de Información Científica-Técnica y Biblioteca de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de Bayamo. Para el desarrollo del contenido del sitio se emplearon: observación, encuestas y entrevistas. Para desarrollar el producto se llevaron a cabo cinco procesos: planificación inicial del sitio, definición, diseño y estándares, puesta en marcha y plan de mantenimiento. Para la confección de la página se empleó el gestor de contenidos WordPress, así como PHP, MySQL, Apache, XAMPP y Windows como lenguaje de programación, motor de bases de datos, servidor Web, paquete de software libre y sistema operativo respectivamente. Se concluye que la implementación de la biblioteca virtual, facilita el proceso de gestión de la información, despierta el interés por la investigación y contribuye a la alfabetización informacional de los usuarios de salud que ingresen a la web. Facilitará la visibilidad, la gestión técnica bibliotecaria; la divulgación, difusión, y uso de los servicios y recursos de información disponibles.
Web pages constitute a means of facilitating knowledge. The work was carried out with the objective of designing and implementing a virtual library to favor the information management process of the Department of Scientific and Technical Information and the Library of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Bayamo. Observation, surveys and interviews were used in the development of the content of the site. Five processes were carried out to develop the product: initial planning of the site, definition, design and standards, commissioning, and maintenance plan. To create the page, the content manager WordPress was used; PHP, MySQL, Apache, XAMPP and Windows were used as the programming language, database engine, Web server, free software package and operating system, respectively. It is concluded that the implementation of the virtual library facilitates the information management process, awakens the interest in research, and contributes to the information literacy of health users who enter the web. It will facilitate visibility, library technical management, disclosure, dissemination, and use of available information services and resources.

El Instituto de Medicina Tropical Pedro Kouri (IPK) es una institución con un alto nivel científico, que desarrolla una formación docente de excelencia en doctorados, maestrías, residencias y otros entrenamientos relacionados con las enfermedades tropicales, su diagnóstico y tratamiento. La biblioteca, referencia en esta rama de la medicina, posee un fondo documental que se encuentra desactualizado, los documentos que forman parte de su colección son ediciones antiguas. Se hace necesario establecer una estrategia para la actualización y gestión de la información. Se realizó una búsqueda de información en internet para tener una visión sobre las herramientas y software utilizados para el desarrollo de bibliotecas digitales. Entre las herramientas consultadas y probadas se seleccionó el gestor de biblioteca de libros electrónicos Calibre por ser el software libre que más se adecuaba a nuestras necesidades. Se gestionó, reajustó y organizó la literatura en formato digital con el objetivo de establecer una estrategia para la actualización de la información, con la finalidad de satisfacer las necesidades de los usuarios(AU)
The IPK is an institution with a high scientific level, which develops teaching of excellence in doctorates, masters, residences and other trainings related to tropical diseases, their diagnosis and treatment. The library, a reference in this branch of medicine, has a documentary collection that is outdated, the documents that are part of its collection are old editions. It is necessary to establish a strategy for updating and managing information. An information search was carried out on the internet to have a vision on the tools and software used for the development of digital libraries. Among the tools consulted and tested, the Caliber e-book library manager was selected as the free software that best suited our needs. The literature was managed, readjusted and organized in digital format with the aim of establishing a strategy for updating information, in order to meet the needs of users(AU)

En el presente documento se describe el trabajo realizado en conjunto biblioteca/nodo para el rediseño de los servicios bibliotecarios a partir de la implementación del servidor de la biblioteca universitaria en el Instituto de Ciencias Básicas y Preclínicas Victoria de Girón. La biblioteca, de tradicional pasó a biblioteca híbrida, pues se crearon servicios electrónicos a los que se puede acceder de manera remota o local de forma instantánea, los servicios presenciales con contenidos impresos se mantuvieron. El sitio web se construyó en wordpress, el catálogo se automatizó utilizando la metodología LILACS. Para la bibliografía generada en la institución se creó un repositorio institucional, soportado en una plataforma de acceso abierto, Eprints. Todo este trabajo realizado por bibliotecarias e informática redundará en mayor visibilidad y citación de los autores; mejorará la gestión técnica bibliotecaria; aumentará la divulgación, difusión y uso de los servicios y recursos de información disponibles través de la biblioteca en la red de salud(AU)
In this paper the author explains the labor they have been doing about the joint library/node in order to redesign the librarian services, since carryings out the network resources services in the library of Victoria de Giron Basic and Clinic Sciences´ Institute. The traditional library started as a hybrid one, because some electronic services were created and the one who uses those computer system can log-in as a remote user or as an in attendance or present user. The printed documents were kept in existence for being consulted. The web site was constructed in word press; the catalogue list was automated using the LILACS methodology. Institutional repositories were created and hold up in Eprints open access platform. All this work, made by librarians and an informatics technician for they have a desired result or effect of higher visibility as well as a better contact with the authors; also making the library technic management better; increase the divulgation, broadcasting and use of the services and information resources available by the health net library(AU)

Aunque son varios los trabajos que han abordado la historia de la actividad de información en el país, las bibliotecas adscritas a universidades no han recibido una atención particular en estos estudios. En el presente trabajo, partiendo del método histórico-lógico, se presenta una periodización del desarrollo de la biblioteca universitaria cubana. Esta periodización se ha realizado atendiendo a los aspectos fondos, personal, servicios, funcionamiento e investigación, lo que ha permitido la identificación de tres etapas fundamentales: 1846-1959, primeras bibliotecas; 1960-1989, desarrollo extensivo y de los servicios; y 1990, actualidad y desarrollo tecnológico. Para cada etapa se presenta una caracterización que incluye los aspectos fundamentales del desarrollo de la universidad que la han influido
Future reflection on the university library in Cuba requires of a historic analysis. Though several research works have studied the information activity in the country, university libraries have not been given a particular attention on this issue. Applying the historic and logic method, the evolution of the Cuban university library is presented. To determine the features of that evolution some items have been taken into account such as, collection, personnel, services, functioning and research work. All of this has enabled the author to identify three main stages: Emerging (1846-1959), Extensive development (1960-1989) and Technological Development (1990- up to the present). Each stage is characterized including those fundamental aspects from the university development which have influenced its evolution

Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo a partir del cual se diseñó una propuesta de servicio de lecturas complementarias sobre temas científicos denominado MEDILEC para los estudiantes del primer año de Medicina de la universalización del Policlínico Universitario Norte Morón debido a las necesidades de información de este segmento de usuarios reales. Este servicio fue una alternativa docente de preparación del estudiante de Medicina para su posterior atención médica integral a la familia y para el uso de los fondos automatizados del Centro de Información. Se describieron las variables a aplicar para la identificación de las necesidades de información de los estudiantes y los pasos del diseño del servicio de lecturas complementarias. Se establecieron los elementos a controlar y la promoción a través de una página web como vía que facilitó el acceso a los productos y servicios. Se determinaron los canales de retroalimentación. De la propuesta de diseño, fueron beneficiados los estudiantes en la medida que consultaron información actualizada, confiable y de acceso rápido que favoreció el proceso docente-educativo y logró habilidades en el uso de las nuevas tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones.
A descriptive observacional study was carried out from which a proposal of complementary reading service on scientific subjects denominated MEDILEC was designed for the students of the first year of Medicine of the universalisation, North Morón University Policlinic due to the needs of information of this segment of real users. This service was an educational alternative of preparation of the Medicine students for their later integral medical attention to the family and for the use of the automated data of the Information Center. The variables applied to identify the needs of information of the students and the steps for the design of the complementary reading service were described. The elements to control and the promotion through a web page were established as a way to facilitate the access to products and services. The feedback channels were determined. From the design proposal, students were benefited, insofar as they consulted up-to-date, reliable and quick access data that favoured the teaching-learning process and obtaining abilities in the use of the new technologies of information and communications.

La utilización de los fondos bibliográficos posibilita conocer la frecuencia con que se usan y son visitados los centros preparados para estos fines y su aprovechamiento. El propósito de este trabajo fue identificar la utilización que ha tenido el fondo documental del Centro Provincial de Información de Ciencias Médicas de Matanzas (CPICM) a través de los servicios de Solicitud de Préstamo y Servicio Cooperativo de Acceso al Documento (SCAD), en el período comprendido del 2005-2007. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal, revisándose el movimiento de las fuentes de información, de acuerdo al tipo de documento, clases, número de revistas según años de edición y para lo cual se utilizó todo el fondo documental existente (libros, revistas, tesis y obras de referencias). Sólo un 15.54 por ciento del fondo fue utilizado en el período estudiado, de ellos los libros representaron un 30.02 por ciento, las revistas un 10.45 por ciento y las tesis fueron los documentos menos usados (3.64 por ciento). La utilización del fondo documental comprobada en este estudio es considerada como pobre y con un aprovechamiento insuficiente. Una mejor labor de promoción en el centro, la incorporación de nuevos servicios y nuevas estrategias de trabajo podría mejorar sustancialmente la utilización del fondo documental.
The usage of library collections allows knowing the frequency the centers prepared for this purpose are visited and used with this objective and the form the visitors take advantage of them. The aim of this work was identifying the usage that has being made of the documental fund of the Provincial Medical Sciences Information Center of Matanzas through the service of Loan Asking and the Cooperative Service of Access to Documents, in the period 2005-2007. We carried out a descriptive, transversal study, reviewing the movement of the information sources, according to the kind of document, classification, number of journal in relation with the edition year; for that we used the entire documental fund in existence (books, journals, papers, and reference works). Only 15.54 percent of the fund was used in the studied period; only 30.02 percent of the books and 10.45 percent of the journals were used, and papers were the less used documents: 3.64 percent. The usage of the documental funds verified in this work is considered poor and its exploitation insufficient. A better promotion work in the center, the incorporation of new services and new working strategies would substantially improve the usage of documental funds.
